Deaths we haven't yet stopped mourning


Andronikos I Kemnenos,
Byzantine Emperor,
after being tortured for about
three days by the city mob,
died on the 12th of September, 1185,
in Constantinople ,
at the age of sixty seven.

Hajime Sugiyama,
Field Marshal in the Imperial Japanese Army,
committed suicide on the 12th of September, 1945,
by shooting himself in the chest
at his office in Tokyo,
ten days after Japan’s surrender
in the second world war.
He was sixty five years old at the time of his death.

Stephen Biko,
South African anti apartheid activist,
died on the 12th of September, 1977,
in Pretoria at the age of thirty
after being interrogated
and tortured in police custody
for about a day in Police Room 619.

Jacques Henri Lartigue,
French photographer and painter,
died of old age in Nice, Paris,
on the 12th of September, 1986,
at the age of ninety.
